Hosted by the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Seong Hoon Do) and organized by Incheon National University (President In Jae Lee) INU Institute for Science-Gifted Education, the 2025 INU Institute for Science-Gifted Education Upper Elementary “Project-Based Convergence Program in Mathematics and Science” Camp successfully concluded on August 4.
The Institute for Science Gifted Education at Incheon National University (Director: Professor Ki Soon Han, Department of Creative Talent Development) provided opportunities for 300 upper elementary students to enhance creative and convergent thinking through the “Project-Based Convergence Program in Mathematics and Science” Camp, held for six days from July 28 (Mon) at INU’s Songdo Campus—College of Social Sciences, Information & Communication Center, and College of Information Technology.
By grade level, the camp curriculum was: ▲ 4th grade “Viewing the World through Micro:bit,” ▲ 5th grade “The Birth of Patterns,” ▲ 6th grade “AI Space Exploration.” Conducted as project classes linked to the first-semester online gifted education program, students read the world through mathematics and science and envisioned the future with creativity.
Based on mathematical and scientific imagination that begins with questions, students imagined and drew the future they will live in. Through project-based classes, they were offered valuable opportunities to grow communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and creative convergence competencies.
The 2025 upper elementary camp also showed a 98% attendance rate, indicating high satisfaction. Students who participated shared, “It helped me better understand what I learned during the first semester, and by collaborating with friends to create materials and present them, I was able to improve my imagination and knowledge—making it a truly valuable experience.”
The INU Institute for Science-Gifted Education provides the nation’s first open opportunities for gifted education across all elementary grades and contributes to closing blind spots in gifted education by offering priority admission and full tuition support through the social integration track and a special track for island/remote areas. In particular, for this upper-grade camp, successful applicants from the island/remote special track demonstrated strong commitment by traveling by boat to participate, providing a meaningful opportunity for hands-on gifted education.
Online gifted education for the second semester begins September 4. The application period is August 25–31. In the second semester, lower and upper elementary students are each offered 34 class hours; students who complete at least 80% of the total 80 hours (lower grades) or 100 hours (upper grades) will have this recorded in their year-end student record. In mid-August, 4th- and 6th-grade students expected to complete the program will be recommended as observation candidates for the advanced gifted education courses (elementary and secondary intensive programs) at the Institute for Science Gifted Education at Incheon National University.
Director Ki Soon Han of the INU Institute for Science-Gifted Education stated, “We will continue to provide convergent gifted education programs—both online and offline—that enable limitless imagination beginning with questions, striving to cultivate and develop creative future talents in the Incheon region.”
The Institute for Science Gifted Education at Incheon National University hosts a variety of events to promote science culture, including 「Incheon Science Culture Hub Center」, 「INU Institute for Science-Gifted Education」, 「Living Science Classroom」, 「Friday Science Touch Incheon」, and 「Gifted Nurturing Project」.
